This is a rare very heavily illustrated undated photo album that was brought home by some Kriegsmarine man or officer who served at strategic German Navy Forward Observation Post at Helgoland during the period 1939 - 1941. It was printed on high quality paper on copper plates by Graphische Kunstanstallt F. Bruckmann in Munich. 1939-1941 Kriegsjahre auf Helgoland: Eine Erinnerungsgabe aus grosser Zeit (1939 - 1941 War Years on Helgoland: a Commemorative Publication from the Memorable Time) contains photos by Oberfeldwebel de Vries, Schensky and Hildebrandt.
The rare photos depict Nazi Kriegsmarine personnel in a wide variety of activities from sewing insignia on their blouses to towing targets for the German coastal guns built into the island in the North Sea (west of Schleswig-Holstein, north of the important naval base at Wilhelmshaven). The pictures are offset on the page, laid out and illustrated by Leutnant Kelmetter, and there is lots of beautiful calligraphy.
