Nazi paratrooper knife
This is a fine example of the standard German parachutist / pilot and aircrew knife of the type carried by Luftwaffe flying personnel during World War II.

The logo on the blade says PAUL WEYERSBERG & CO. SOLINGEN ROSTFREI. The blade has never been sharpened since the knife left the factory and the springs are all tight.

The handle wood is in very good condition with small marks left from the turning of the lanyard ring. The spike is marked Eagle 5 and back of the trigger and the trigger spring are marked 269.

The hammer end of the knife on the spike side has a small amount of pitting as shown in our photograph. There is also a small amount of light rust on the top side of the spike spring a couple of inches back of the trigger.

This is a very nice example of what many collectors call a “paratrooper drop knife”.

A TYPICAL NAZI FALLSCHIRMJAEGER / FLIEGER
GRAVITY KNIFE WITH A BROKEN BLADE
This Nazi gravity knife was in very good, little used condition when it was captured from a German POW during the battle for Bastogne, Belgium on 4 January 1945 by a US Army 1st Lt. George R. Fell.
Lt. Fell then gave the knife to his 12 year old nephew who broke the blade 3-3/4 inches back from the tip. The blade had never been sharpened! Years later the nephew tried to drill the rivets out of the heavy end of the knife, apparently to take it apart so he could try to get it fixed. He got one hole all the way through and the other about half-way through when he quit.

The spike is marked Eagle 5. The trigger is stamped 126 over 2 and the spring has the 126 number. The rest of the knife is in very nice condition with good grips, springs, spike, etc.

We are sure somebody out there will be able to rebuild it! Complete with the rusty broken blade and Lt. Fell’s grip label. We can further identify Lt. Fell to the buyer of this Nazi gravity knife as we have more material that belonged to him.
This damaged Third Reich German gravity knife is offered for

Nazi photo
We know that because Lt. Fell wrote the details of the knife’s capture on a piece of adhesive tape which he stuck to the handle. While the tape has fallen off, one can still see the spot where it originally stuck.
