A SEVEN PIECE GROUPING OF
DOCUMENTS FOR A NAZI FORST- MEISTER INCLUDING DOCUMENTS BEARING THE SIGNATURES OF ADOLF HITLER & HERMANN GÖRING |

| In Third Reich Germany forestry officials were given recognition and respect that is unimaginable to Americans in the 21st century. Forestry officials in Hitler’s Germany were charged with the health and maintenance of and efficient production from one of Germany’s most precious resources - trees. The eight original items we offer in this grouping all belonged to the same man, a Forstmeister (Forester) named Gerhard Limbacher.
Limbacher worked for the Forstamt in Gemünden (Main), a small city wedged between the beautiful Bavarian Nature Parks of Rhön and Spessart. The town is east of Frankfurt and north of Würzburg just a few kilometers west of Hammelburg, famous for the Hammelburg POW camp raid during World War II. |

| Without knowing anything more than we know from these documents, we know that Gerhard Limbacher took his job very seriously. We have letter number F 9022 (below left) dated 13 July 1939 from the Bayerische Ministerpräsident Landesforstverwaltung in München (Munich) bestowing on Limbacher a promotion from Forstreferendar to Forstassessor. The letter notes that from 1 July his pay would be raised to RM3400 annually. The beautiful 14 x 20 inch (folds to 10 x 14 inch) Nazi promotional document is dated 17 June 1939, is printed on heavy cream color paper, is written Im Namen des Führers und Reichskanzlers (on behalf of Hitler) and signed by the Bavarian Forstmeister. It bears the big 3-1/4 inch emboss of the Hoheitszeichen or National Seal (an eagle and swastika) in a wreath of oak leaves. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| We also have a later letter number F 10047 (right) dated 5 November 1940 from the Bayerische Ministerpräsident Landesforstverwaltung in München (Munich) bestowing on Limbacher a permanent lifetime promotion from Forstassessor to Forstmeister. The letter notes that from 1 November his pay would be raised to RM4800 annually. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The beautiful 14 x 20 inch (folds to 10 x 14 inch) Nazi promotional document is dated 14 October 1940 and is enclosed in a heavy linen-finish folder with a ragged edge and a gold eagle and swastika embossed in the center. The actual promotional document is printed on heavy cream color paper, is written Im Namen des Deutschen Volkes (on behalf of the Nation) and bears a printed or autopen signature of Adolf Hitler as the Führer and a GENUINE PEN AND INK SIGNATURE OF THE REICHSFORSTMEISTER, Hermann Göring (above). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| It also bears the big 3-1/4 inch emboss of the Hoheitszeichen or National Seal (an eagle and swastika) in a wreath of oak leaves. Like other important documents of this sort, the German text below Limbacher’s name assures him of the Führer’s protection. This is a very rare document, virtually never seen with the letter of transmittal.
Unfortunately for Limbacher and the German Forest Service in general, he was called up for service in the Wehrmacht in the fall of 1939. |

| We also know from his Iron Cross Second Class award document that on 29 June 1940 he was serving in the 268th Infantry Division at Breurey in central France. The document is signed by the Generalmajor and Division Commander Staube, who had his headquarters in the castle. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We also have a letter from the Commander of the Wehrmacht Central Transport Group (Voßstraße 33) in Berlin dated 29 July 1944 awarding Leutnant Gerhard Limbacher the Kriegsverdienstkreuz Second Class with Swords for his efforts in military transport.
The Limbacher documents in this grouping are an extraordinary find for someone who collects Nazi Forestry material or genuine Hermann Göring autographs. The handwritten Göring signature is one of the nicest we have ever seen and comes on a beautiful Forstmeister promotional certificate complete with the letter of transmittal. |

| On another web page we are selling Limbacher’s correspondence with the DAF sales agency for the KdF Car or Volkswagen. Limbacher attempted to buy one for use as a forestry official but found out after making most of the payments that he was not going to get the car. Click HERE if you are interested. Limbacher's wife Annemarie was the recipient of correspondence from Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves winner, DAK Generalleutnant Willibald Borowietz, a POW in the USA.
