Hermann Göring - Werk und Mensch (Hermann Göring - His Work and The Person) was written by SS-Oberführer Ministerialdirigent Dr. Erich Gritzbach in 1937, and it became an instant best-seller. While mostly portrayed as a vain buffoon nowadays, World War I fighter Pilot ace Hermann Wilhelm Göring was the son of the first Governor-General of the German protectorate of South-West Africa and one of the most popular and powerful men in Nazi Germany.

This blue hardcover book with gold blocking measures 5-½ x 8-1/2 inches and its 352 pages have chapters on Hermann Göring’s work: his importance on 30 January 1933 when the Nazi Party was elected to power in Germany, his time as Prussian Prime Minister, Air Force, Sport and State Hunting Minister and the “builder” of the Four Year Plan.

The chapters on Hermann Göring “the person” include: Soldier and Statesman, Politician, Artist and Labor Comrade.
This example of Hermann Göring - Werk und Mensch was brought back to the United States after World War II by the same GI who acquired the autographed R. Walther Darré book and who was at Frankenführer Julius Streicher estate at Cadolzburg where he acquired the rare 1932 edition of Mein Kampf, also for sale on USMBOOKS. It is clear from this book and those other books that the GI / collector had a good eye for books and was in some way involved in the incarceration of high-ranking Nazi prisoners prior to the War Crimes Trials in the Nürnberg suburb of Fürth.
Albert Günther Göring was a World War I veteran, an engineer and businessman, a controversial figure in Nazi Germany, and not always an asset to his older brother during the Third Reich. He was incarcerated at Nürnberg and served time in prison in Germany and Czechoslovakia. He was was freed in 1947 but was shunned in post-war Germany since he declined to change his family name. He died of pancreatic cancer on 20 December 1966 and was buried in the Göring family grave at the Waldfriedhof [cemetery] in Munich.

There are also private photos of Göring's first wife Carin, his second wife actress Emmy Sonnemann and the official family portrait after the birth of their daughter Edda.

Sprinkled through this book are over 50 rare photos of Göring in his SA uniform, handing over the authority of the Gestapo to Heinrich Himmler, riding in a horse-drawn carriage with President von Hindenburg, elk hunting, piloting his own plane, the Göring family castles at Veldenstein and Mauterndorf, with Adolf Hitler in Berchtesgaden and in the newly liberated Sudetenland, visiting the Hermann-Göring-Steelworks, etc.
The Göring biography comes with a 4-½ x 8 inch piece of yellowed paper (shown above) bearing the original signature of Albert Göring, Hermann Göring’s younger brother. Above the ink signature is confirmation by Göring that it is his signature, and the date 1 September 1945. Signature papers such as this one were required of notable Germans arrested at the end of the war and we can only assume that both the book and the signed paper were acquired at the same time directly from Hermann Göring’s younger brother.
First published in 1938 by the Central Publishing House of the NSDAP, Franz Eher Nachfolger of Munich, this is a beautiful 26th edition of Hermann Göring - Werk und Mensch with its original 1939 dust jacket. It looks like the 85 year old book was never read but the dust jacket shows wear as is obvious in our photo at the top of this USMBOOKS web page. The book has no odor.
