Die deutschen Reichsautobahnen Hans Pflug
Adolf Hitler’s freeway system in Nazi Germany
Nazi freeway construction
This is a very rare Third Reich photo book about Adolf Hitler's freeway system in Germany from the series Das Deutschland der Gegenwart (Modern Germany). Die deutschen Reichsautobahnen (The German Freeways) by Hans Pflug was published by Deutscher Verlag of Berlin in 1940 to explain why the new National Socialist Germany required the most modern and technically advanced road system in the world.
die Strassen Adolf Hitlers
a motorized Nazi Germany
The 5-7/8 x 8-1/8 inch, 78-page book starts with the explanation that because the German nation was growing and because of its need for Lebensraum, the existing infrastructure of the country needed to be improved. The existing road and rail network was just not adequate any more. Like in the United States, more citizens were expected to have their own car and German travel culture was expected to change. Reichschancellor Adolf Hitler's leadership and his vision for Germany as a motorized country sped up the planning and construction of die deutsche Reichsautobahnen - the German freeways.
Reichsautobahn Tankstelle
Reichsautobahn Rasthaus am Chiemsee

Despite its relatively compact size, this is one of the very best (and rarest) Nazi books on the Reichsautobahn.

A previous owner laminated the cover and this rare 75+ year old Nazi book is in very good used condition
Nazi freeway laborers - barracks entertainment
The realization of Hitler's ideas for 7000 kilometers of freeways all over Greater Germany are described and shown in many photographs. The ceremonial opening of the first stretch on 21 March 1934 by Adolf Hitler himself, construction machinery, laborers and their barracks, modern freeway bridge design, freeway rest stops and gas stations, the financial aspect of the construction of the Reichsautobahn, etc.
