DEUTSCHLAND (GERMANY)

With the construction of the Reichsautobahn of Adolf Hitler under the direction of Dr. Ing. Fritz Todt during the 1930s, the foreign and domestic travel industries in Germany flourished.

The big 10 x 14 inch monthly travel, traffic and scenery magazine ,,Deutschland’’ (Germany) circulated in the professional travel and hospitality industries. Each 30-32 page issue had a gorgeous full-color cover and was absolutely stuffed with in-depth photo feature articles on German travel destinations and German celebrations. Naturally, each issue also contained splendid ads from companies with a product or service to sell to those involved in travel within Germany.

DEUTSCHLAND ISSUES OF MARCH 1935 AND AUGUST 1937

The March 1935 issue of DEUTSCHLAND has a splendid painting of the Reichsautobahn by Fritz Bayerlein on the front cover. In subdued greens with a pastel sky the painting hung for decades in the US Armed Forces recreation center at Chiemsee, Germany, the former Reichsautobahn Raststätte on the Autobahn on the south shore of the Chiemsee between München (Munich) and Salzburg.

It contains major photo articles on German highway construction, Bad Ems, Bad Mergentheim, Wiesbaden, Bad Nauheim, Johann Sebastian Bach and spring in Baden.

There is advertising for a book on motor racing, the city of Baden Baden, AEG, various festivals and hotels. The magazine includes a four-page insert ,,Reisedienst Deutschland”.

The August 1937 issue of DEUTSCHLAND has a colorful Axster-Heudhass (Ax-Heu) illustration of the Berlin Bear on a swastika in front of the Town Hall of Berlin in honor of the 700th anniversary of the city.

It contains major photo articles on Reichshauptstadt Berlin, the Wagner Festspiel in Bayreuth, the Zwinger in Dresden, Münster, etc. There is advertising for Siemens, cities, hotels and tourist attractions.

DEUTSCHLAND ISSUES
OF APRIL 1938
AND MARCH 1939

The April 1938 issue of DEUTSCHLAND has an extraordinary pastel profile portrait of Adolf Hitler by F. Harnisch on the front cover.

It contains major photo articles on the German reunification with Austria (Der Anschluss) and Hitler in Vienna, Bremen, Kreuznach, Würzburg, Bad Aachen, Ludwigsburg and 9 days aboard a Hansa ship. There is advertising for Siemens, ship lines, cities, hotels and tourist attractions.

The March 1939 issue of DEUTSCHLAND has a beautiful painting of a spring scene with the Alps in the background on the front cover.

It contains major photo articles (shown right and below) on the New German Reichschancellery that Professor Albert Speer built for Adolf Hitler on Vosstrasse in Berlin.

Other articles in the March 1939 issue include spring in the famous spa town of Baden Baden, stamps that advertise German sights, Goethe in Egerland, mountain skiing and a full-page portrait of Nazi Staatssekretär Hermann Esser.

Shown right is the photo feature on the Anschluss or reunification of Germany and Austria in the spring of 1938. Below is the postage stamp page mentioned above showing pictures of among other sight, the famous opera house in Dresden.

There is advertising for Bayer, Prussian health spas, postal bus lines, cities, hotels and tourist attractions.

Each magazine has a small tear taped with scotch tape.
