CONCENTRATION CAMP BUCHENWALD WOODEN PLAQUE

Konzentrationslager Buchenwald
A LASER ENGRAVED WOODEN WALL PLAQUE BEARING
3 HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT PIECES OF MATERIAL
FOUND AT BUCHENWALD CONCENTRATION CAMP
KL Buchenwald
Just the name of Nazi Konzentrationslager (KL or Concentration Camp) Buchenwald will always evoke feelings of fear and outrage in people around the world. Konzentrationslager Buchenwald (KLB) was established by Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler in a forest a few kilometers north of Weimar in the mid 1930s as one of the six principal camps in the concentration camp system of Third Reich Germany.
In the vicinity of the Thuringian city of Weimar the Germans established about 30 subcamps of KLB to supply labor to a wide variety of local industries. The main camp or Stammlager continued to expand throughout World War II. Historians and others will always debate the number of prisoners who died at Buchenwald and the method by which they died. No one will ever question the brutal conditions under which the prisoners lived or the fact that a large number perished.
SS-Reich This exceptionally well-made plaque features the meticulous artwork of American artist Robert Wilson, laser engraved on an 8-1/2 x 11 inch piece of oak wood. It depicts the Jourhaus or Main Entrance of Konzentrationslager Buchenwald, beneath two pieces of material found at the camp in 1997 in a ravine just outside the SS Officer’s Barracks. The pieces are a 3 x 3-3/4 inch piece of the bottom of a white porcelain dinner plate and a white porcelain stopper from a bottle of locally made beer. At the bottom is a piece of original Konzentrationslager Buchenwald barbed wire.
KZ Buchenwald Nazi memorabilia
The piece of the white porcelain dinner plate bears the markings in green of the manufacturer, BAUSCHER WEIDEN (Bauscher of Weiden, Germany), SS runes in front of the word Reich and the date 1940. The porcelain beer bottle stopper still contains a portion of the steel wire that originally attached it to the bottle, and it is marked with the name L.DEINHARDT Stadtbrauerei WEIMAR, the brewer. The back of the plaque has a comprehensive signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity attached to it.
