Selbsthilfe vor und nach Bombenschäden translates as “Self-Help Before and After Bomb Damage” and is a Wegweiser für Bombengeschädigte (Directory or Guidebook for Bombing Victims) with chapters covering what to do when the air raid alarm sounds (“Don’t be nervous!”), how to prepare your house before and during an air raid, gas masks, going to the air raid shelter, what to take to the air raid shelter, fighting fire, care for the wounded, unexploded bombs, how to apply for help after losing your home and acquiring air raid victim identity documents.

This is a very interesting and rare 1944 self-help booklet published by the Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB or National Air Raid Protection League), the Nazi organization in charge of air raid precautions in residential areas and small businesses. It was overseen by the Luftwaffe and like all other political, military and paramilitary Nazi organizations, it was structured on the national, state, city and neighborhood level.

This original 5-3/4 x 8-1/8 inch, 16-page RLB help guide for air raid victims was published in 1944 by Müller Verlag of Berlin and Wien. The back cover has advertising for the three booklets that have already been published in this RLB Schriftenreihe and the announcement of four additional booklets in the works that will cover the legal aspects of Luftangriffe and war damage to personal property, as well as air raid protection in rural areas.

It is amazing that this very comprehensive Third Reich RLB Wegweiser survived! This original 77 year old example of Selbsthilfe vor und nach Bombenschäden is in very good, little used condition, no odor.
