Besides the Berghof of Adolf Hitler, splendid sunny weather, a lovely alpine lake, generations of Gebirgsjaeger, and beautiful mountain views, Berchtesgaden is famous for the minerals that are mined there.
Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden
The 1 x 2-1/4 x 4 inch nicely made 6-compartment box of mineral samples offered here was acquired by someone on a tour of the Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden (the mining company) on 21 July 1939.
On the back of the card packed in the box there is an explanation of what the mineral samples in the box are. Numbers 1 through 5 are varieties of salt and number 6 is gypsum.

A great Third Reich Berchtesgaden souvenir, obtained very near Hitler’s Berghof!
