Volk und Reich (Nation and State) was a popular monthly magazine by a popular Berlin publisher during the Third Reich. Each magazine was at least partly devoted to an important and timely theme of German and often wider interest.

This example of the March 1938 issue is rare specifically because it dealt with a single subject - “The World of the Jews” - in a very direct manner.

1938 was to be a key year in the lives of many European Jews as they were officially disenfranchised and many who could afford it left Europe for another part of the earth.

The rare 8 x 10 inch, 76 page heavily illustrated soft cover publication contains a large fold-out map that calls out the percentage of Jews in the populations of various European and North African countries and the percentage of Jews in the populations of the provinces in Hungary, Poland and Rumania.

A large picture section in the magazine depicts the faces of Jews, the Jewish underworld, a Rothschild on a California beach with a pretty young Christian woman, Jewish streets and ghettoes in Eastern Europe, and eastern Jews departing for Western Europe, Trotsky as commander of the Russian Army, American movie star Jackie Coogan, Jewish crowds in Tel Aviv, an old lady at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, Jewish officials in close proximity to Josef Stalin, etc., etc.

The text pulls no punches in diagnosing the Jewish problem and in attempting to convince the reader that the only answer is for Jews to live somewhere outside of Europe.

Very, very anti-Semitic material. Naturally, very few original examples of this 1938 issue of Volk und Reich survived the end of World War II. Rare and in very good condition.
