BOUND EXAMPLES OF ALL ISSUES OF
THE NAZI PARTY’S PHOTO WEEKLY
ILLUSTRIERTER
BEOBACHTER

OR ILLUSTRATED OBSERVER
4 JULY - 26 DECEMBER 1940
The JB or ,,Illustrierter Beobachter’’ was the Nazi Party weekly photo newspaper published in München (Munich) by Verlag Franz Eher Nachfolger, but read by just about everybody, all over Germany. Each 10 x 14 inch issue contained about 24 pages of the very latest news, photographs and information gathered from around the world. The excellent paper was published every Thursday and sold for only 20 Reichspfennigs, the equivalent of 12 US cents.
The issues offered here are all the issues for the extremely historic second half of 1940 (4 July through 26 December) in a big heavy hard cover book-like binding. Because they were bound like a hard cover book all the issues are still in excellent condition.
Nazi swastika armbands
Katherine Rothschild in Paris
Naturally, Nazi Party Führer and German Chancellor Adolf Hitler is promnently featured in virtually every issue, seen in his role as leader of the government, but also in the field with the men of the Wehrmacht in his role as Chief of the Armed Forces.
anti-Jewish cartoon
The other prominent Nazis are there too, from Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, Dr. Joseph Goebbels, Reichsminister Hermann Göring, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Baron von Neurath, Baldur von Schirach, Fritz Todt, Ritter von Epp, Benito Mussolini, etc.
Hermann Goering
There are many anti-Semitic articles and cartoons. There is even a photo of a sign that the United States Embassy apparently installed on the residence of Katherine Rothschild in Paris stating in French, English and German that the owner of the property was an American!
Soldaten fallen vom Himmel
There are features on German movie stars, royalty and on foreign military strongmen.

Natural disasters and sports are well covered but of course, the big news of the day was that France had surrendered and Hitler himself was in Paris. There are hundreds of photos of German troops in uniform, in combat, weapons, aircraft, U-Boots, ships, tanks, vehicles, etc.

Organisation Todt
Special features showcase Ernst Heinkel, the Hitler Youth in school, Italo Balbo, the Bayreuth Festival with German soldiers as guests, Benjamin d’Israeli, German parachutists or Fallschirmjäger, Willy Messerschmitt, Gibraltar, the signing of the Axis Pact in Berlin, Alsace and Luxembourg, building Stuka aircraft, burning London, Hitler meeting Franco, Hitler meeting Mussolini in Florence, Il Duce and his troops, the Nazi Old Guard, occupied Jersey island, Viktor Lutze, etc.
There is advertising for every kind of German consumer product from cigarettes to toothpaste and ladies underwear to cameras and bicycles for the HJ. In every issue there are timely jokes and anti-Jewish cartoons. Very rare and in very good condition.
